Patterns & Shapes

Patterns are things that repeat in a logical way, such as numbers, images or shapes. For example, a pattern can be made out of alternating colors on a sweater. Understanding and identifying patterns help children make predictions because they begin to understand what comes next. It also helps children learn how to make logical connections and use reasoning skills.

This skill of sorting and identifying patterns has a huge connection to math, specifically algebra. A child who has developed these strong skills will find it easier to make matches, identify sets, classify items, recognize and create patterns, compare sets for differences and similarities, and understand how rules apply to sets.

Golden Kids Learning has Patterns and Shapes Worksheet activities that focus on identifying patterns, drawing shapes, and colors. These worksheets can be printed out and completed by the child for fun and enjoyable daily practice.
